It was great..

There was a great turnout, the decor was nice, and the free food-a plus in itself- was healthy!

We alternated between karaoke, the raffle, and the live band-

I sang Third Eye Blind-Semi-Charmed Life with Allie and Cat
halfway through the song I realized the band was playing along- it was great!!!

I actually won a ceramic mug--whoohoo!
I was starting to doubt that I'd get anything actually..

AAAAAAAAAAAAAND while I was kicking back and just watching the band, I suddenly realized that I should do my ethno report on them!! After the party ended I went up and interview them... THIS IS FOR BRODIE!!

Greg's a pizza delivery guy now and Chris works downtown, so they don't get to practice much-- according to Joey, everytime Chris comes home he (Joey) "dies a little inside." Yep.

You know what this reminded me of? When that band (Up in Arms?) played at our high school in junior year and Kathie B. and I were there, and we got the bumper stickers and then she asked the guy if she could keep the guitar string he broke, which she did. Seriously, exact same thing. No joke.

I also got to keep their set playlist- which is actually kind of out of order, but it's cool.
I bet you my performance paper is going to be the only one with the playlist and a broken guitar string as proof of attendance.

I definitely want this paper back. I'm going to be pissed off if I don't get it back, it's so awesome the prof might just keep it. I'm serious. She'd do that.

I got Eminem's Encore disc on Friday, and I am gloriously happy.

It's soo good. Granted, heavier and harsher than other things I listen to at times, but GOOD.

Gunman kills Dutch film director

Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh, who made a controversial film about Islamic culture, has been stabbed and shot dead in Amsterdam, Dutch police say.
Police arrested a man in a nearby park after an exchange of gunfire. The man, aged 26, had joint Dutch and Moroccan nationality, they said.
Van Gogh, 47, had received death threats after his film Submission was shown on Dutch TV.
It portrayed violence against women in Islamic societies.
The film was made with liberal Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a Somali refugee who fled an arranged marriage.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali has been under police protection since the film was aired. She has also received death threats and has renounced the Islamic faith.

Eyewitnesses quoted by Radio Netherlands said Van Gogh was attacked while cycling by a man dressed in a traditional Moroccan jallaba.
Both the suspect and a policeman suffered bullet wounds and are now in hospital.
Van Gogh - who was related to the famous Dutch painter - had also been making a film about Pim Fortuyn, the populist right-wing, anti-immigration politician assassinated in May 2002.
Film controversy
The film Submission told the story of a Muslim woman forced into an arranged marriage who is abused by her husband and raped by her uncle. It triggered an outcry from Dutch Muslims.
In one scene the film showed an actress in see-through garments with Koranic script written on her body, which also bore whip marks.
The Netherlands is home to nearly one million Muslims or 5.5% of the population.
One of the film maker's colleagues at the film production company said Van Gogh had received death threats "but he never took them quite seriously".
"He was a controversial figure and a champion of free speech," he told Reuters.
Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende said "it is unacceptable if expressing your opinion would be the cause of this brutal murder".
"On a day like this we are reminded of the murder of Fortuyn. We cannot resign ourselves to such a climate, " he added.
And Queen Beatrix said she was shocked and appalled at the killing, AFP news agency reported.

It seems I've avoided posting about politics since I haven't "blogged" in the past two days...

well it's not going to last. Tuesday was insanely busy, and then I waited 1.5 hrs in line to vote, which I finally did get to do (hurray). I was starving though, and so I ate quickly, got my ass back home, and got to some much needed reading.

Sort of. I watched the election night coverage- it can be fun as hell.

No I'm serious.

Then I was busy with classes that ran late again on Wednesday, and then studying my bum off until LATE last night/EARLY this morning.

More tests, coming right up. Ah, well... the more the merrier.

It's raining like hell here. Spent a good 28 minutes walking in the drizzle, the rain, and then the storm. I've been feeling pretty down lately; I always feel much better after a good 28 minute conversation, and a good meal, though. I don't know if anyone can tell, but I just don't think I'm adjusting that well. It's not the easiest of transitions, not when I adore my city the way I do. At least there's a sea close by. It's not the closest, but knowing it's there is better than nothing, non? I find myself wanting to be in one of the places I love most, trying the new carousels, the new places, and just taking in that feeling during the holidays. I love being there in the afternoons, cozy in the sweetest ways. It's raining on my promenade, and it's raining on my carousel.

This strongly harkens back to the last scene of Catcher in the Rye, and I am reminded that while I may feel like Holden momentarily, that's just not how it works anymore. I'm beyond now. My carousel's indoors.

Seriously, I saw it last weekend.

Il pluies!

il pluies, il pluies, il pluies.

Luckily I was incredibly warm in my long-sleeve, my hoodie, and my windbreaker/rain coat. The gloves and beanie were essential, and I congratulated my sensiblity in having brought them this morning every time I slipped them on or fidgeted them. So yes, I was very, very warm for most of the day.

After noon it was a bit colder because I removed my windbreaker during classes; that extra jacket really is imperative no matter how bulky it gets- warmth!!

What a long day, it was exhausting.

It was still beautiful though, and there were a few extra extra highlights of the day. Suffice to say, I am a happy female.

Dinner was lovely and unexpectedly eventful. Hunger is great for the soul, God Bless!

And it's only 7:30, plenty of time for my duties!!

How much did I LOVE that lab?

I ended up with DNA "snot goop" en masse, and it was just beautiful as it floated in my 50 ml beaker, unraveled, luxurious, seductively relaxed.

It looked more phlemish as I spooled and spun it, and there it was, a yellow, sickly, opaque flub of E. Coli garblygoops. Garblygoops in this case standes for DNA ;)

And then there was the walk. Folks, it's truly autumn. Windy, blustery, cold, scenic and just a little morbid. At times it was like walking through Sleepy Hollow, and then Jurassic Park.

I managed to set up a phone line to my room properly, and now I've made calls out and gotten calls in! It may not seem like much, but just understanding how to dial out of this building is a feat in itself. So having completed this all in no more than 19 hours has been quite a triumph, I must say. =p

Stopped off for quite an eventful lunch today- decided not to walk in the drizzle, and it was a nice change of pace (literally) to sit down and have a long, comfortable meal en tant que Français, sort of.

Alas, I must be off. Yes "alas," Je me sens dramatique aujourd'hui ;)
